It's On You: Vote June 11th

Dear Friend,

It has been an honor and a privilege to represent you in the Virginia State Senate these past eight years. I am enthusiastically running for a third term to continue to fight for our shared Democratic values. June 11this Primary Day. Polls are open 6:00am to 7:00pm. Early, in-person absentee voting ends Saturday, June 8th. I respectfully ask for your vote.

During my tenure in the Senate, I have passed over 40 bills that have improved our transportation system, supported our most vulnerable children, reduced class size, increased teacher pay, improved access to health care, including mental health services, diversified our energy sources and advocated for equal treatment under the law for our LGBT friends and neighbors. I have earned the title of “pragmatic progressive” because of my success in the following areas:

  • Education—The principles of equity and opportunity guide my public policy decisions. Going forward, I want to improve access to quality early childhood education, improve our K-12 public schools and increase access to affordable college and workforce training. I will reintroduce a proposal to provide debt-free community college in high-need workforce areas. I proudly carry the endorsement of the Virginia Education Association.

  • Working Families—I will continue to expand child care subsidies, fight to increase the minimum wage and ensure that steps are taken to prevent wage theft. I have been a strong proponent of paid family leave. Any organized Labor group that has endorsed in this race has endorsed me. These groups include, SEIU 32BJ, IBEW Local Union 26, LiUNA, Mid Atlantic Pipe Trades Association, Carpenters Local 197 and the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 2068.

  • Women’s Healthcare—As chair of the Senate Women’s Healthcare caucus, my efforts to codify Roe vs Wade-and protect a women’s right to privacy in making reproductive health care decisions has earned me endorsements from Emily’s List, NARAL and Virginia NOW. I will continue to fight for these important issues.

  • Protecting the Environment—I am proud to say that the Virginia chapter of the Sierra Club recognized me with a 2018 Energy Freedom Award. Working on climate change will continue to be a cornerstone of my legislative efforts.

  • Gun Safety—I am a champion on gun safety issues and will always fight for common-sense gun safety laws.I have repeatedly introduced and supported legislation that would require universal background checks, ban high capacity magazines and stop the manufacture and sale of bump stocks in Virginia. Fortunately, I was able to pass a bill that requires an individual who violates a protective order to forfeit his firearms. The NoVA chapter of the Brady Group has endorsed me and Moms Demand Action has recognized my tireless work on these important issues.

  • Criminal Justice Reform --Decriminalizing marijuana, expunging the records of juveniles and more robustly funding diversion programs will continue to be priorities in my legislative agenda.

I believe Senator Kaine captured the essence of my public service in his statement endorsing me. “I know Senator Favola will serve with our shared values of fairness and justice in mind, I’m proud to endorse Senator Favola’s candidacy for a third term in the Virginia Senate.” I hope I have earned your support, as well.
